Dr. Matthew Ellsworth 'Matt' Fuseli / Biomaster

Candid shot taken at the Fuseli Clinic,
sometime in the late 2000's

TASK FORCE's main nemesis throughout the 1980s, and a member for all of one day in 'The Battle of Detroit'. As of "Force of Will", he is the mentor and sponsor of the new DFW superhero team 'The Texas Guard'.

Character Sheets 1992 2012
  • Affably Evil: Oh, hell, YES!
    • How affable? In the prologue to "Heart of Darkness," his response to Ladyhawk's infiltration of his lab to rescue Sage is to have a pleasant conversation with her.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The takeoff from the VIPER Safehouse in '72 Hours' certainly qualifies.
    • His biggest one has to be the climax of 'O Little Town'
  • Combat Medic: What he spent most of "The Battle of Detroit" doing once back on Earth.
  • Comic Book Fantasy Casting: Kelsey Grammer
  • Cultured Badass: when he's not attempting to take over the DFW Metroplex, he's a guitarist and a microbrewer. He also does wargaming with miniatures.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Generally struggles to keep up with Starforce as a supervillain. As a superhero, however, he lays a truly EPIC verbal takedown on Baron Nihil in 'Fields of Saguenay.'

Nihil: "BEHOLD THE SECRET OF SAGUENAY, GENTLEMEN! The dimensional rift that keeps it stabilized against the Nihil-winds of the annihilation dimension itself!"
Biomaster (to Starforce): "Please tell me I was never this melodramatic as a supervillain."

    • What about Starforce's marriage proposal to Ladyhawk in 'The Varanyi Civil War'?

Starforce: "Julia Lynne Dormyer, will you marry me?"
      Ladyhawk: "You're kidding!"
Starforce: "I have never been more serious about ANYTHING in my life."
Biomaster: "That's a low bar to hurdle..."

  • Doctor's Orders: Pulls this on Starforce in the epilogue to "A Week at Davos" in order to get him to heal properly from Fiacho's wounds.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: At the beginning of 'O Little Town', he refuses to exploit the discovery of Ted Jameson's superheroic ID on Christmas Eve
  • For Science: His justification for wanting to sequence Vikon's DNA
  • Heel Face Turn: Starts during 'The Varanyi Civil War', complete by 'The Battle of Detroit'
  • Friendly Enemy: He has pretty much become this to TASK FORCE by 'O Little Town'
  • Gargle Blaster: His best-known microbrewing product -- which he makes only for himself and his immediate friends -- is Alpha Strike, a beer that is 87 proof. That's 43.5% alcohol by volume.
  • Hidden Depths: His skill with the guitar is sufficient to hang with Bob (piano) and Bowser (sax) in an impromtu jazz trio/jam session in "O Little Town"
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: His standard adventuring outfit looks like this, but after "The Battle of Detroit" is actually low-profile Destreum armor.
  • Large Ham: In-universe, provides the picture for the trope on TV Tropes :)
  • Lego Genetics: Strongly implied in 'Piranharecho', as the piranha have no problem surviving in mid-air for minutes inside a violent thunderstorm
    • In 'Jurassic City' he has absolutely NO problem in replicating Michael Crichton's literary method for cloning dinosaurs after reading a rough draft of Jurassic Park
  • Mad Scientist: Why else would he attempt to project his neurokinetic powers across the North American Continent in 'The Strange Secret of Matthew Fuseli'?
    • or release cloned dinosaurs before Michael Crichton can have Jurassic Park published so he can sue him for infringement of prior art?
  • Shipper on Deck: For Ladyhawk and Starforce, as seen in both 'Jurassic City' and 'The Varanyi Civil War'."
  • Super Doc: Licensed General Practicioner (too many to list), Obstetrics ("United States v. Hawkins"), Genetics ("Piranharecho", "Jurassic City"), Medical Nanotechnology ("The Varanyi Civil War", "A Week at Davos"), Psychology ("The Jewel of Awad")... is there nothing he doesn't know medically?
  • Villains Out Shopping: Why else would he have been at the Galleria on Christmas Eve in "O Little Town"?
